S.T.O.R.M.

Mission Statement
To maintain an information network concerning the latest developments in sobriety assessment and impairment detection.

The Michigan Chapter of S.T.O.R.M. is affiliated with Mississippi S.T.O.R.M. d.b.a. Sobriety Trained Officers Representing Millions.

For years, Mississippian's struggled to find and develop strategies that would enhance the ability of their officers to address the carnage impaired driving collisions were causing. In 1996, they discovered that networking and training their officers in the use of NHTSA's Standardized Field Sobriety Testing technique would make the difference. MS S.T.O.R.M. was formed in May of 1996, to increase awareness amongst Mississippi's law enforcement community so that Mississippi's most serious traffic problems could be erradicated. Since its inception, the organization has become the source Mississippi's law enforcement officers turn to for that training and information. You can visit their website at: http://www.msstorm.net.

Michigan S.T.O.R.M. also models this strategy.

STORM's Michigan chapter was formed on April 7,1999, using funds awarded by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (N.H.T.S.A.) to remedy an all too common concern currently affecting the quality of life for families throughout the state: safer communities and the discouragement of impaired vehicle operation.

In partnering with Michigan's Office of Highway Safety Planning and Dr. Marcelline Burns; the scientist who led the research team which developed and validated the three test; NHTSA/IACP approved Standardized Field Sobriety Testing battery, this web site aims to disseminate information every officer needs to achieve these goals. Our organization provides officers with a network they can turn to for information about our sobriety assessment, grant funded training seminars and relevant case law.

Since our inception, the successes we have enjoyed have been directly attributed to the collaborative efforts our sponsors, our membership and trainers have put forth to improve the quality of life in Michigan.

Michigan S.T.O.R.M. continues its work funded solely from member dues.
